Schirmer/Mosel Publishers was founded in 1974 by Lothar Schirmer, a publishing manager and Erik Mosel, a copywriter. The two quickly gained notoriety with the debut of their first two publications - Rheinlandschaften by August Sander and Photographien Berlin 1890-1910 by Heinrich Zille - both unconventional for 1975. Concentrating mainly on art and photography, Schirmer/Mosel has produced nearly 1,500 art and photographic titles up to date and through their consistency in presenting creative revolutions, have gained the respect of the most celebrated photographers and artists of this century.
